I learned about the ESC program thanks to AFS, and I thought that by working with AFS, I could do meaningful work for an organization whose mission I fully support. In this way, I could also actively use my experience and knowledge about AFS programs to help current exchange students in Latvia.
I feel very good in Latvia. Without exaggeration, I can truly say that Latvia has become my second home.
I loved working together with the office staff, local volunteers, and other ESC volunteers! The atmosphere was always nice and warm, and even now, when I no longer work there, I enjoy stopping by to say hello whenever I’m in Riga.
I really enjoyed working with young people – both local and exchange students. In them, I saw the same great enthusiasm and curiosity about the world, cultures, and languages that I myself had when I went on exchange, and which I still have. Knowing how much that curiosity has meant in my life, I am very happy that they also want to step out of their comfort zone and discover new things.
